While it is indeed a satisfying moment to look at our freshly scrubbed bathroom, most of us would agree that we don’t like to spend hours cleaning it. We try our best to look for ways to make the bathroom cleaning chore a short and easy task.

Which brings us to the question, if the plans of renovating your bathroom is in the pipeline, why don’t you do it in such a way that makes the newly renovated bathroom an easy-to-clean one?

Let’s look at how you can achieve this!

  1. Install Wall-Mounted Appliances

Toilets and basins that are wall-mounted make it easy to wipe the surfaces underneath it. Toilets that are fixed to the wall will have all the pipes hidden, making it much easier to clean in comparison to older model toilets. Another design to consider is an in-wall cistern, which is the toilet water tank that is concealed inside the wall with only the flush buttons exposed, making cleaning easier compared to the conventional cistern.

As for wall-mounted basins, you don’t have to worry about dirt and soap residue collecting at the base, making the countertop much easier to clean.

Moreover, choose bathroom fittings that have a straight and sleek designs that will be easier to clean instead of fittings with nooks and curves.

  2. Choose Large Tiles

Go for large format tiles, such as the 12 x 12, 12 x 24 sizes or larger, rather than smaller tiles on the floor. Large tiles will minimise the area of grout joints. Also, try choosing porcelain tiles that can be placed closer together, which will reduce the need for wider grout joints. As for grout selection, there are many different types of grout. Use high-quality grout that has built in sealers with mildew and dirt resistant properties. With some of the older and less expensive grouts, there will be the hassle of having to repair and seal it time and again.

  3. Invest in Proper Ventilation

Ventilation is an important aspect of a bathroom’s design. The ventilation system needs to provide air circulation and, if possible, lighting as well. It should also help to extract the additional moisture present in the bathroom. Try choosing a combination of an exhaust fan and a window in order to fulfil these ventilation requirements.

Don’t make the mistake of choosing a small-sized exhaust fan for a large bathroom. Proper ventilation is a preventative measure that can save you significant time spent cleaning in the long run.

  4. Suitable Flooring

A properly sloped shower floor will prevent water pooling in a place and reduce the chance of mould. Be sure that the shower floor is properly built with good waterproofing system. A linear drain allows the easy flow of water and other dirt or dust particles straight through the drainage without getting stuck in between bathroom fittings.

Taking the time before you renovate to properly list down your wants and needs can save you plenty of time and money. If easy cleaning is an important feature to you, consider these time-saving features for your bathroom project. Speak with your interior designer or contractor to learn about other time-saving features you can add to your renovation, such as finishes that reduce staining and water marks. With practicality and aesthetics in mind, your newly-designed bathroom will function as a relaxing and an easy-to-maintain space in your home!
