When the pandemic hit in 2020, the construction industry took one of the biggest blows. The movement restrictions imposed by the Government to curb the pandemic stopped their wheels on track. Foreign labourers could not enter the country. Sites were shut down for months in fear of spreading Covid. In 2021, the Government slowly eased up the border closures and movement control orders to revitalise the economy. With that, the construction industry also set sail with some big projects.
Here are the top 5 construction projects that launched in Q3 2021:
1. Bintulu Methanol Plant
As per Dayak Daily, RM 3.7 billion was invested to build a methanol plant in Bintulu, positioning it as a petrochemical hub. The project stretched upon 40.40 hectares of land to build a plant that has a capacity of 1.7 million tonnes per annum.
The project intends to produce methanol for supply to Petronas. They aim to produce methanol of 140 million standard cubic feet per day with natural gas as feedstock. Starting construction in Q3 2021, it is expected to be ready for operation by Q4 2023.

It is expected to be a highly demanding project as the SOHO and serviced apartments and offices with major amenities and modern infrastructure will be the newest addition to residential and office facilities in the region.
According to Centro’s official website, the price of the residential units of Centro will start as low as RM 145,000. Being just a 3-minute drive away from Johor Bahru CIQ and Future RTS train station to Singapore, the building is located strategically.

The facility will stretch upon 36,500 square metres over 3.65 hectares of land to fulfil the increasing demand for multilayer ceramic capacitors.
